The star has given the entirety of his £25,000 honor winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to protect the Britain's independent concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the award on mid-October as his new release People Watching was declared the best record of the previous year.

He has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the vital role small stages played in his initial steps.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the total UK scene.

In the last year, top acts including Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to support numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The money assisted venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges caused by water damage, blazes and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and noise complaints.

Additional spaces obtained financial assistance in improving facilities and gear that directly benefitted artists and fans.

"The concept that revenue from shows in big venues supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for performers like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

And the 1994 recipients they donated their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was identified with the disease.

"The victory was quite enough," said singer Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the extra, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected two local spots in that region, by bringing them into community ownership.

The first in that area and The Croft in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is supported by a national body and enthusiasts who buy "stakes" in the venues.
